London Fire Brigade now uses technology, known as GoodSAM, to live stream content. When someone calls emergency services, control room officers can now understand the situation at hand more by seeing a video stream of the incident.
The Live Stream is Done Via a Video Link
If the fire department wants to see footage of the fire, they ask the caller to send a text message, which contains a secure link. This then opens a live video stream, which connects the caller’s phone to the Control Room.
Although this sounds high-tech, live stream links like this have been around for some time. Bands across the world are now able to sell tickets for live-streamed shows online, and when you buy one, you are given a link you can use to connect to the live feed. Live sports work in a similar way, allowing people to see all the action, right as it happens. In other verticals, like iGaming, live streaming is also a prominent feature. When playing games at a live casino UK, whether it’s live blackjack, poker, or roulette, you click on a link that connects you to a live dealer. The stream happens in real-time, and you also have the option to interact with the croupier, showing how versatile the technology is.
London Fire Brigade adopting the technology, however, means that the team knows whether they need to send more fire engines or send someone with specialist capabilities. They can also share the footage with people as they are on their way to put out the fire, so people know what to expect.

The Live Stream Technology is Helping to Improve their Services
GoodSAM can also be used to determine someone’s accurate location, as it uses eastings and northings, as well as What3Words. With longitude and latitude technology included as well, it’s now much easier to determine where incidents, especially wildfires, are taking place.
In areas that do not have any clear, identifiable landmarks, this is especially useful, and it is also good for those who may not be local to the area, as it allows them to report fires with ease. With London being such a tourist destination, this can only be a good thing. GoodSAM can be translated into 104 different languages as well, so even when someone calls in a different language, it is translated live in the control room. To use GoodSAM, no app is needed, and more situational awareness can be provided to the team.
The software doesn’t require much training at all, either. When callers dial the fire brigade, they are simply connected to the control centre, and from there, they can be asked if they want to provide a live stream, which is sent directly from the phone. No costs are incurred, and no other data is accessed or stored on the phone either, showing how versatile it is and how much potential it has to not only save buildings and infrastructure from fire damage, but also to save lives.
