A new study reveals England as the fourth most searched European destination for American travellers.
The study, conducted by luxury villa rentals SopranoVillas, analysed Google average monthly searches between March 2024 to February 2025 for nearly 3,000 keywords related to European destinations, including flights, accommodations, and landscapes. The data was then grouped by state to find out which destination is the most searched throughout the US. Among the rising stars in search interest were hotels in Zagreb, reflecting a growing curiosity about Croatia’s charming capital city.
England’s findings
England ranks as the fourth most searched European country for American holidaymakers, with a total of 802,034 average monthly searches.
“London hotels” is the most searched keyword in the US, with 273,658 average monthly searches, while “London weather” ranks as the fifth most searched keyword with almost 135,000 monthly searches.
Moreover, the city of London is the most searched destination with 550,783 average monthly searches.

Italy ranks first with 1,541,963 average monthly searches. This result is due to a combination of highly searched keywords for various Italian cities such as Rome, Venice and Florence. “Venice Italy hotels” is the sixth most searched keyword in the country with 133,303 average monthly searches. Meanwhile, “Rome hotels” and “Florence Italy hotels” rank seventh and ninth, with 124,084 and 112,200 searches, respectively.
Spain comes in second place with 1,023,265 average monthly searches across the US. “Barcelona hotels” is the second most searched keyword in the country with 260,490 average monthly searches. Barcelona is also the third most searched city in the US with 397,192 average monthly searches.
France is third with 926,496 average monthly searches. “Paris hotels” and “Paris weather” appear in the top 10 most searched keywords nationwide, in third and tenth place, with 243,915 and 106,676 average monthly searches, respectively.
Further down the list, England ranks fourth with a total of 802,034 average monthly searches. “London hotels” is the most searched keyword in the US with 273,658 average monthly searches and London is the most searched destination with 550,783 average monthly searches.
Greece rounds out the top five with 612,265 average monthly searches. Athens is the seventh most searched city, while Santorini is in 18th place.

The data highlights which destinations are the most sought after, with Italy significantly ahead, registering over 500,000 more monthly searches than Spain in second place. This is also reflected at the city level, with Venice, Rome, and Florence consistently appearing in top travel-related queries. The top searched keywords related to accommodation, particularly hotels, underscore that Americans are planning their European getaways. With Spain and France following closely, and with Greece also close by, it’s clear that Western Europe and Mediterranean countries are the most sought after by American tourists”.
